Wellness Grant

Program Description

This funding opportunity is aligned with our Nonprofit Capacity & Leadership Initiative. These small grants are intended to empower nonprofit organizations to prioritize the health and well-being of their employees and volunteers.

Allegany Franciscan Ministries values your commitment and dedication to serving our communities, as well as your partnership in creating positive change. We are thrilled to support organization’s staff and volunteer wellness initiatives and celebrate the positive impact of your efforts.

Examples of how you may choose to utilize grant funding include:

  • Full-team interventions, such as staff and volunteer retreats, mental health days, or team-building activities.
  • Individual discretionary stipends to cover health or wellness activities.
  • Membership fees for wellness programs.
  • Wellness supplies or tools to support staff and volunteer well-being.

Eligibility

To be considered for funding the organization must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • The organization has an active ruling from the Internal Revenue Service confirming 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status.
  • Organization confirms the understanding that the application process will be using a lottery system to award FY26 Wellness Grants.
  • Organization has been awarded a grant within the last five fiscal years (July 2020 – June 2025). Eligible grant programs include ACOR (U.S. based applicants only – No International), Tau, St. Clare, Connecting with Community for our Common Home (formerly Climate Justice & Care for Creation), and/or a Nonprofit Capacity & Leadership grant.
  • At least 25% of staff leadership (leadership team as you define it) includes individuals who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, an individual with a disability, or an immigrant.
  • Be willing and able to comply with all requirements of the Allegany Franciscan Ministries Grant Agreement.*

The organization acts in alignment with Catholic Social Teaching.

Limitations

  • Organizations are not eligible if they have received a Wellness grant in FY25 (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025).
  • Wellness grants are not available for individuals, public agencies, capital campaigns, endowments, or reserve funds.
  • Grant funds must be spent by June 30, 2027.

Total Awards

We expect to award 18 Wellness grants in FY26. Using a lottery system, there will be 3 tiers available for applicants. The total amount requested will be based on staff size (part-time and full-time staff). We will run a separate lottery for each tier.

Tier 1: 0-5 $3,500 10 grants
Tier 2: 6-15 $7,000 6 grants
Tier 3: 16+ $10,000 2 grants

*Although funding awards are based on staff size, funds may be used to support volunteers.

This grant program utilizes a lottery system to select recipients from a pool of eligible applicants. As a result, applications are not evaluated or ranked and individualized feedback is not available.
