July 2016 – Allegany Franciscan Ministries has a new logo! It is a bolder, vibrant and more modern look that continues to reflect our Franciscan roots. The logo’s elements hold special meaning to us and we would like to describe the significance to you.
Tau – The center and focal point of the logo, is the Greek letter “Tau”. The Tau is also known as an Old Testament sign of the cross. St. Francis had a strong connection with the Tau and used it in his writings and in his signature. Consequently, many followers of St. Francis have adopted the Tau as their symbol. Like most Franciscan followers, our founding congregation, the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, uses a Tau in their logo. Following in their tradition and because we are also rooted in Franciscan values, we have chosen to adopt the Tau as well.
Shape – The oval/circle shape represents connectedness and inclusion. The “arms” of the Tau reach out beyond the inner oval/circle demonstrating bold pushing of barriers as well as our desire to reach out and serve the community, especially those who have been marginalized. Surrounding the Tau and within the oval, there are three light green spaces. These represent the Holy Trinity, the three regions where Allegany Franciscan Ministries serves, and our parent company, Trinity Health.
Color – The new colors are bold, crisp and energetic. Blue is often associated with health which is a focus our work and both blue and green represent the environment which was very important to St. Francis. The lighter shade of green matches Trinity Health’s logo green.
